Scenarios Scenario 16 — Fear before a difficult conversation

Scenario 16 — Fear before a difficult conversation

Avoidance is building because conflict feels risky.

Situation (full narrative)

Jason has been feeling tension at work with his supervisor, though it is hard to describe exactly why.

Over the last couple of months several small interactions have left him uneasy. A couple of emails sounded sharper than usual. One project review meeting felt awkward, like his supervisor was frustrated but never quite said so directly.

Jason keeps wondering if he missed an expectation somewhere or if something about his work has been disappointing lately.

At the same time, no one has actually said anything clearly negative to him. His performance reviews have been solid, and the projects themselves seem to be moving forward.

The uncertainty is what bothers him the most. He cannot tell if there is a real problem developing or if he is simply reading too much into a few tense moments.

Training exercise

  • Write the situation in one sentence without assuming motives.
  • List the concrete events that actually happened.
  • Identify where the tension seems to be coming from (miscommunication, expectations, or relational strain).
  • Separate what is clearly known from what the person thinks might be happening.
  • Choose one Authority card that establishes God above the situation.
  • Choose one Identity card so the intercessor stays grounded and neutral.
  • Choose one Situation card that best names the tension.
  • State the prayer focus in one sentence.
Use this to tighten your framing, not to chase details.
