Scenarios Scenario 28 — Fear that blocks obedience

Scenario 28 — Fear that blocks obedience

Repeated waves of fear rise whenever obedience gets close and begin to shape the decision.

Situation (full narrative)

Every time Jonathan begins moving toward a step he believes God may be calling him to take, a wave of fear seems to appear almost immediately.

The fear does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it shows up as a quiet list of reasons why the step might not be wise. Other times it feels like a heavy sense of dread that makes the decision feel overwhelming.

Jonathan has tried to think through the situation carefully. Some of the concerns do sound reasonable, and he does not want to ignore legitimate caution.

But the timing of the fear keeps troubling him. The pressure almost always rises right when the moment to act seems closest.

Now he finds himself questioning whether the hesitation he feels is wise caution… or whether fear itself is beginning to control the direction of the decision.

Training exercise

  • Write the situation in one sentence identifying the most important tension.
  • List the events and concerns mentioned in the story.
  • Separate what is known from what is assumed or feared.
  • Determine whether the pressure appears practical, relational, or emotional.
  • Choose one Authority card that places God above the circumstances.
  • Choose one Identity card so the intercessor remains steady and aligned.
  • Choose one Situation card that best names the issue.
  • State the prayer focus in one sentence.
Use this to tighten your framing, not to chase details.
